What each emoji refers to

: The Forbidden City has around 980 surviving buildings and was closed to the public for 500 years.
: The dragon was reserved for imperial use. A five-clawed one could only appear on the emperor's things.
: Jiaozi at new year, and Peking duck carved at the table.
: Peking opera combines singing, mime and acrobatics, with painted faces coding character.
: The hub of the largest high-speed rail network in the world.

Distances are great-circle, the same measure the game reports after a wrong guess. The arrow is the direction you would need to travel from Beijing.
