Metroji clue #136

Guangzhou in five emoji

China

Known in English as Canton for centuries, and for a long stretch the only port foreigners were allowed to trade through. The food travelled further than the name.

What each emoji refers to

Yum cha means drink tea, and the tea is the frame the whole meal is built around.
Dim sum came out of the tea houses here, which is why the portions are small enough to keep ordering.
Under the Canton System from 1757, this was the single legal port for European trade with China.
Guangzhou is called the flower city, and the New Year flower markets take over whole streets before the holiday.
The Canton Tower twists as it rises and was briefly the tallest structure in China.
