What each emoji refers to

: Fushimi Inari has thousands of torii gates, each donated by a business.
: The Philosopher's Path follows a canal lined with cherry trees.
: Uji, just south, has grown tea since the 1100s and supplies most ceremonial matcha.
: Nijō Castle has nightingale floors, built to squeak and give away intruders.
: The fox is Inari's messenger, which is why the shrine is full of fox statues.

Distances are great-circle, the same measure the game reports after a wrong guess. The arrow is the direction you would need to travel from Kyoto.
