Metroji clue #91

Malabo in five emoji

Equatorial Guinea

The capital sits on a volcanic island about forty kilometres off the coast, while most of the country is on the mainland. It is the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa.

What each emoji refers to

Oil was found offshore in the 1990s and changed the national accounts faster than almost anywhere.
Bioko is the top of a volcano. Pico Basile rises three thousand metres behind the city.
Seven primate species live on Bioko, several of them found on that island and nowhere else.
The balele is a Bubi dance, performed in a circle to drums, and predates the Spanish by a long way.
Cocoa plantations covered the island under colonial rule, and some of the old estates are still standing.
