Metroji clue #62

Amman in five emoji

Jordan

Built across a lot of steep hills, which is why the addresses are given by circle numbers rather than streets. It was a small town of a few thousand a century ago.

What each emoji refers to

The Ain Ghazal figures were found just outside the city and are among the oldest human statues known, at around nine thousand years.
The Roman theatre in the centre held six thousand and is still used for concerts.
The Dead Sea is an hour away and is the lowest exposed land on earth, at more than four hundred metres below sea level.
Wadi Rum in the south is Bedouin country, and the tourist camps are run by the families who grazed there.
Tea comes heavily sweetened with sage or mint, and refusing the second glass takes some doing.
